This blog follows the results of NHSG research exploring the effectiveness of experimental raised gillnets in reducing the amount of unwanted by-catch (e.g. Atlantic cod) for Gulf of Maine gillnetters. The project works with fishermen from Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. The project is funded by The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and The Nature Conservancy.
Our central location at UNH allows us to work with fisherman all along the coast of the Gulf of Maine, including Harpswell, Seabrook, Rye, Scituate, and Chatham.
